please looking for any foods or medication that can help with anal burning while passing stools. I'm 5 weeks over the take down with a j pouch and am in agony all the time. looking for any one that can give me any advice . thank you
Hi there! I don't have a J-Pouch but I'm about 2.5 months out from my colostomy/ileostomy reversal. Creams helped me for a little while, but rinsing with warm water via a peri bottle felt great! Warm sitz baths, too.
As for foods, I learned to stay away from anything acidic... tomatos orange juice... when the burning was at its worst. After awhile, I started to combine orange juice with oatmeal or pancakes with less side effects.
Very rarely do I get the burning sensation now. Usually its when I've had a glass of wine or too much green chili.
I had the ostomy in '08 and a reversal in ' 09. Food never had an adverse reaction on me. suppose I was one of the lucky few. HOWEVER!! I will give you one big tip. Any time you feel the slightest urge to have a bowel movement and even when you don't have an urge...... go to the bathroom and see if you can go. You don't even want a blockage! I had one after almost a year after reversal and thought I was going to die. I was incontinent in that I leaked fluid but could not have a movement. This went on for three days. I would get a cramp and it felt like I was giving birth. I finally drank prune juice, did the old vaseline trick, and even had a fleece enema handy for when I thought I was ready. Finally on the third day the blockage passed, Since then prune juice is always handy. Even though I have diharrea constantly, I dread the thought of having another blockage. Good luck and I hope you don't go through what I did.
