I'm sort of a nomad, my home seems to be uprooted periodically. I know you like planes, trains and automobiles, but it's nice to see YOU - very handsome.

Hi Vulcan, Really nice picture!

Im trying to find more contentment without indulging in the "wanderlust" that I've enjoyed. My parents didn't travel, and we didn't even have a car, so never went on vacations...but did spend time at the beach...Loved it.Married a man, who didn't like to travel... so spent summers at the local pool or at the beach. After divorce.....the cage door opened, and I learned to fly...literally figuratively. Traveled with a friend in a single engine plane. Here in the US, Mexico Canada, and even Haiti... it was an adventure...and then I traveled all over Europe, China, Japan, Israel,South AFrica, and Australia 7x to visit my son and his family who live there.Health and financial issues, have "clipped" my wings.....but as much as I would still love to be on the go, I'm reflecting on all the wonderful places I've been. I'm glad I took bits and pieces of my "retirement" doing what I love, before I got "too" old to do it.

Hi Marsha , its only of late that I dont travell so much .. Just a few yrs back I was doing France , Belgium , Germany Italy etc & did many visitsto Switzerland where my stepdaughterstill doesa seasonal job. I flew , took ferries , buses trains . I used my sisters holiday home in Portugal rented accomodation in Tenneriffe we had our own appartmenton the Costa del sol , in Spain . I also did a fly-drive to USA CAN Niagra. I still love aircraft , but have fallen out of love with Airports . I no longer have the patience to book in early , stand in line , go through security , wonder where I parked the car , wait for a plane that is 2 hours late , then get on the metal flying tube with noisey kids drunks withe smelly feet .

However My Jaguar does allow me to re explore my own country , in style comfort adding afast dash of speedon our Motorway system( Police presence cones permitting ) . So far this year we have manageda 3 night break in the UK Lake district 4 days in North Wales , I havnt given up on travel , I just cut my cloth according to my age my slight medical incapacity .

Anyway happy travells take care .....Pete .

I have been to the lake district and totally fell in love with it --- what is Wales like? Do you have any suggestions for things/places/ must do and don'ts?? ;I have had plenty of time in London as well and will leave that off the list this year. How is the rail service throughout the southern areas and Wales?

It will probably be winter when I am over again to be with the little kids - they are moving from Keyworth to Woodcote and I want to see the southern portion of UK as well --- Need to go to Lowestoft to see friends but the rest of that countryside ;is unseen so far --- I like to do all I can but I am much more respectful of my limits now -- as I am sure you are from your note - plus you have really seen a whole lot of our planet!!

North Wales is a great place to visit , quite laid back with wonderful scenery not quite so much traffic, as many of the roads are more of a rural nature . Theland layout is not ulike the Lake District but may be a little more rugged . Some of the land has a slightly old Victorian edge to it as , Slate , Copper lead was mined untill quite recently scars on the landstill remain . Wales has a good municipal rail way system although N walesis not that well served . However because of its Industrialpast there are at least11 Heritage / Tourist / Preservednarrow guagelinesknown collectively as " The Great Little Trains of Wales " all well wortha visit / Ride . They are all laid on old Industrial routes , are usually hauled by steam Loco's go through some magnificent scenery. Because of ancient / Medieaval wars / clashes between Wales / Englandit has the best collection of ruined / preservedancient Castlesanywhere.

Lowestoft is on the Eastern cost of England , not an area I know well , but it is an old Fishing port that coastline is most interesting ...

I will try dig up more snippets of usless info....http://www.greatlittletrainsofwales.co.uk/ If link doesnt work , maybe better to google it !!

Hi Vulcan,

i love visiting my sister in the north of England. She lives not far from Durham, so over the years I have visited many of the little villages around her. Richmond Craster stain drop, to name but a few. I grew up in Edinburgh Scotland. I love going home, and have been blessed to be able to do it often. It really recharges my batteries, especially when I also get time in the Borders my brother lives in Selkirk. There is just such a different pase to life. I am with you, in that if I still lived in the U.K. I would not feel the need to go anywhere abroad.

you are a lucky man.
