Airport Security Experiences with an Ostomy

Has anyone with an ostomy ever encountered troubles getting through security, being patted down or anything horrible in front of others? Thanks, Carol

very interesting thread, would be just my luck for some barney fife to want to frisk me. anyhow carol i never been on a plane so i cant answer but i am curious also. somebody on this forum surely knows, so dont be shy, speak up.

Hi Carol-I've flown a bit, and was never "patted down", I would imagine they would inform you they were going to do it, and you could request privacy because of health issues. I had similar fears after my surgery, I worried about  swimming, travelling, hugging, dancing etc...Luckily my fears were unfounded---( I never saw anyone patted down either)

I have heard horror stories like a Korean vet who had a metal knee replacement. The metal made the detector go off and the folks working there made him pull down his pants right there in front of everyone. How degrading for that poor man. I was never afraid of hugging or dancing after my surgery, but swimming was a challenge. As it later turned out, it was only in my mind too.

Hey guys,if I was that kind of person,I'm not,but what a wickedly cool place to hide something.....Who in their right mind would want you to open or even show them the bag?You only need to have a letter from a G.P...and if that didnt work, then maybe they'd ask you to show them...I have never had a problem with that...and most times curiostity does kill the cat.....Oh where is my mind at times? lmao   Ok maybe spending too much time alone after-all

Oh no, maybe not fiesty....I think that becomes a natural defense mechanism....some use it to fend off tormentors and such.(come near me and I'll let it rip)..others use it for their own personal gradification......(they want to see the look on a persons face.after a degassing)..Ok long story but I was disgusted with what I heard.I can play games just as well as anyone now,specially when it seems your letting wind go at the waist.(what you got under there?)...Oh the games...lmao..ok I have to go...later folks...

Tequila, yes i remember drinking that a long time ago. it was about that time my career as exotic dancer started, it didnt last  very long.. just till the cops got there. best i remember that tequila made my whole body hurt...  {it might have been the cops nightsticks}... they have no appreciation for fine dancing i guess

Fiesty, there are ostomy travel  ID cards put out by the UOAA, I'm not sure how well they work...may even make some more curious....
