Sorry to read about your bag trials.
I suspect that the holes are caused in the manufacturing process. Perhaps the machine that cuts and fuses edges gets small particles of sand or metal that poke holes during the cutting and fusing process. It could be an older piece of equipment that sees very little use or cleaning. I think you mentioned thinner plastic being used. That would make it even easier to puncture.
Or the plastic may come to them with holes from faulty manufacturing processes.
As Bob suggested, I would be willing to request a sample and complain loudly if I get a faulty bag.
What is the manufacturer's name and code#?
Surely if a bunch of us (who can) do this, it would bring more attention.
