I have to admit this post actually makes me feel physically sick.  So when did showing kindness and respect become a liberal trait?  Has the U.S. really gotten to this point?  Is there no topic of conversation that has not become politicized in your country? How terribly sad and disturbing.  I feel genuinely sorry for you.

Terry

Thank you Terry for confirming that the truth makes most liberals "physically sick", but I already knew that.

kindness and respect are NOT a liberal trait..... surely we can agree on that, after all they support abortion.....which shows total lack of respect for the most basic human right, the right to life.

in your third sentence you casually lump everyone together as one group based simply on where I live...... liberals hate that.....except when THEY do it..... that's another liberal trait, hypocrisy

" sad and disturbing "......a very good snapshot of the liberal mindset

"i feel sorry for you "..... really ?? just because we have differing views, bizarre!

now I would be happy to debate you or any other liberal, but let's not clutter up this otherwise positive thread with negativity. Start your own thread on what a rotten human I am and I will gladly reply.  Warmest regards mmsh

Since you mention it... & as much as I'd like to ignore this post... in today's political climate, avoidance of truth (constant lying), lack of kindness & respect (constant insults and demeaning nicknames), hypocrisy (claiming to drain the swamp while being the most corrupt pol in D.C.), & lumping everyone together as one group ("shithole countries"), are so verifiably Trumpian as to make downright bonkers an attempt to apply those labels to "liberals."  But this is what our country has turned into:  alternative facts take over minds and reality becomes secondary.

Thanks Henry,  I know there are still some people out there who know what truth is when they hear it, people who value integrity, kindness and respect.  I try my best to ignore the rest, the hate and negativity, but it is an uphill battle.  I'm not good at letting go of lost causes, something I will endeavor to improve upon in 2021. I'm afraid this site has become a little too toxic for my mental health.  I hope things will improve in the future, but for now at least, I need to let it go.  This used to be such a warm and accepting place to be, to share experiences, to help each other, to make each other laugh, to learn from each other, to offer nonjudgmental support.  Instead it has become a field strewn with landmines, where you can click on what appears to be an innocent topic only to find it become a toxic hatefest.  I'm not sure I believe that things will improve anytime soon, but I never lose hope.  It's all we have in the end, to keep us going.  That, and knowing there are people like you out there.

With great admiration and respect, all the best to you,

Terry

Bob a few of the comments on this page that had nothing to do with the subject is why a lot of people don't post. It started off as a good post and turned into something else. That seems to happen in a lot of the post. People say if you don't like a post don't read it. But you start reading a good post and someone has to change it, That is one reason myself and I think others don't post as much. I think if someone wants to talk about something different than the topic of the post started they should make their on post and title it so if it is something people don't want to red they can skip it. Keep at it, Bob, I mean your efforts to seek more participation from the members here. That beer party sounds like a lot of fun. It is a small world but what would be the venue for such a gathering? Nice if such a meeting could become a reality. I propose Las Vegas. A friend of mine and I won big at a casino in London once. Later on that night he got high and threw some money out of the window from our flat. The police showed up and said they will arrest us if we did that again. The next day he took of for Las Vegas and lost it all there. All the best wishes.

Hi Bow,

Yeah, a grand gathering of kindered spirits would be fun............who knows, it could happen.  If I hit the $1Billion MegaMillions lottery the other night I would have flown everyone to my Sis's place up in Canada and we could've made snow angels until we puked. Then drank some of that crappy Canadian pee they call beer!  JUST KIDDING SIS!!!! Never would have made it thru college without my wingman Labatts!

Ah, but we can dream!  Funny, I never knew it was illegal to throw money away, as I seem to do it in so many other ways..........rather than just actually throwing it out the window.  Live and learn I guess.  Vegas might be a stretch for some, but maybe Atlantic City could substitute!  Once this COVID crap goes away, that is.  I can see it now up on the Casino marquees; THIS WEEK......SHITBAG CONVENTION ON THE BOARDWALK......PLEASE WATCH WHERE YOU'RE STEPPING! HAVE FUN!

Rock On, Bro!

Yeah, Atlantic City would be a fun meeting place too. A manager in a casino once told me that they don't want people to lose all their money, who would want to go to a casino then? They want them to have fun also. The friend I mentioned in my previous post was friendly with a croupier in London, after a session at the the tables,he was on his way to the Restroom when she came up and told him to play the low numbers, sure enough, he started winning after he did. I don't know! The only game where the odds aren't stacked against you is Blackjack, you have a fair chance of winning if you play it right. There are some mathematically minded people who win big at it but are banned from many casinos, something to do with the rights of admission reserved. Some of their cases are pending in the courts. Luck has something to do with it, but your expertise at the game is what counts. Best wishes.

Hi, Bowsprit~

I have lived in a "casino town" for almost 40 years, and worked in one large casino for 5 years, on the floor in slots and high-limit areas.  From what I've seen, with all the money lost by high-rollers ("whales") and people who pawned their bus ticket home "for just one more winning...card hand/slot pull/roll of the dice/keno ticket" then became stranded in Reno when it didn't happen, I agree that the odds favor the "house".  These casinos aren't changing out the crazy-themed carpets every year and building new hotel towers because they're losing money to the guests.  ;)

And because of my experience watching people lose insane amounts of money day-after-day, unless I am dining in a restaurant on the premises, or attending a concert or show, I don't patronize casinos.

A former president of France, I think Georges Pompidou said: There are three roads to ruin; the quickest is with gambling, the most pleasant with wine, women and song, and the surest is with technology! You are right, compulsive gambling is a horrible thing that has brought a lot of grief to a lot of people. What I meant was that if you like the ambience and in some of them it is irresistible, like the ones in Monte Carlo and you want to play then you are better off sticking to Blackjack or Baccarat, the odds are better. However, playing these games without a thorough knowledge of them is a big mistake. Pure luck is an elusive item though more money has been won by it than the best card systems.

My first experience at a casino was in Atlantic City.  While in college the father of one of the guys on my dorm floor was a big wheel......he had lots of bucks.  So did his kid, come to think of it.  I was broke.  I was working my way thru college working 2 jobs and barely had enough money for food.  So one day this rich kid friend of mine says hey......you want to go to AC for the weekend next week?  And I'm like Larry, I'm broke.  But payday was that Thursday before and I had $40 that was for groceries that week.......that I could potentially spend....and maybe make more.  Which meant maybe eating something better than Rice Krispies and those instant Nissan soup bowls.......so why not?  So Friday after classes we pile into his Thunderbird (that Daddy bought him) and we drove down to AC.  His Dad already had a room reserved for us and the buffets were free.........so at least I wouldn't starve.  We even had tickets to a magic show......David Copperfield before he was famous, I think!  So we got unpacked grabbed something to eat and then went to the show.  It was a good show, we had fun.  Then after the show we decided to go try our luck and win some big bucks.  We split up, as he wanted to go play the Dollar slots, and I headed over to the Quarter slots.  You can guess how that turned out.  Anybody want to take a guess how long $40 will last you playing the quarter slots?  So 5 minutes later I'm wandering the casino broke, looking for my friend, figuring he's in the same boat. But nope..........that SOB is winning his ass off playing Dollar slots.  Talk about ironic........he needed that money like a hole in the head, and here my poor ass is wandering around the casino with my head down looking for any stray coins on the floor.

I'll just say this..........casinos are fun when you have money to burn.  But without any money they're as boring as a cemetary.  The next day his Dad arranged for us to be on the Jerry Lewis telethon for Muscular Distrophy, which was being held in the casino's conference center.  It was pretty cool, they interviewed us on the air and we had our 5 minutes of fame.  They had lots of balloons at the telethon, so my buddy grabbed on and took it with him as we left the conference center and wandered into the casino.  I'm sure Lily can tell you what happens when someone brings in a big ballon that blocks the overhead cameras from seeing the gaming.  Three big dudes all in black came flying over, pounced on my friend, grabbed the balloon and escorted him out of the casino..........in a not very gentle manner.  Lesson learned.  But from that point on the rest of Saturday and Sunday really sucked for me.  My buddy would toss me a dollar token every now and then when he got feeling sorry for me, but I was bored out of my mind!  Without money.......there's absolutely NOTHING to do in AC or the casinos.  I learned that the hard way.  But I figured it would make for a good story some day...........and it has.  There's worse things I guess.  It was fun being young and stupid.....and if you're never young and stupid you can never become old and wise.  Don't ask me what I ate that following week after blowing the grocery money.

Money begets money, Bob, unfortunately that cliche is true. But you were lucky in your first experience in that casino, some people like me enjoy beginners luck the first time and start thinking winning in a casino is easy, takes some time to find out that isn't true. Have to keep your eyes open, the man who bust the Bank in Monte Carlo was an English engineer who observed a flaw in the wheel and used it to his advantage! You can be sure that the wheel is now meticulously maintained in the casinos. That "eye in the sky" watches the staff just as much as it watches the players. The Chinese are avid gamblers, the largest Casinos with the largest volume are in Macau. They don't serve free drinks though like some other places, not even a cup of tea. Iv'e never been there. When I was winning at Blackjack in London, I noticed a Chinese lady at my back placing her bets exactly over mine, you are allowed to do that. I won her a packet that night. A good move, you never know whose luck is up, go around the Blackjack tables and see who is winning, place your bets with them. Best wishes.

Hello Bowsprit.

I am not a gambler, but more of a keen observer of human behaviour. Thus, when I found myself in a casino in Monte Carlo, I advised my friends which fruit machines to play and when to stop. These 'tips'  were not based on who was winning but who had just lost all their money. My friends won money while they were following my guidlines. However, once I left them to their own devices they quickly lost it all. Gambling is addictive so those who keep playing will eventally lose. It is a far better strategy to give up when you are winning.

Best wishes

Bill

I really loved this site because I didn't see a lot of political crap. Hammering on liberals is not helpful. I have left other sites because of hate speech and name calling. I don't mind a debate but outright hate should not be entertained. Count me absent for a while.
