Hi there,

I have recently had some blood work done and see that my 3 month level is slightly higher than it’s ever been. My sugar has always been within normal range. Has anyone else had this?  Do you know if it’s from iliostomy?

Hi DW.  So you're talking about your glucose levels, right?  Did they say you're hyperglycemic or just above your normal level?  What was the level?  It should be in mg/dL.  Normally diet is the key contributor to your glucose level......have you changed your diet drastically since getting your ileostomy?  Glucose levels vary significantly during the day, so did you fast before your blood was drawn?  There's a lot to this topic, so I'll stop here and see what you say.

;O)

Thank you so much, bigal1579. I think I will wait awhile on the cherries and sauerkraut. LOL. I have gotten some good advice. Thanks to all that have replied. I sure am happy that I stumbled onto this website.

DW,

I assume that by the 3-month level you mean HbA1C? This is the critical number that is used as it reflects how your glucose level has been over the three month period. If it is high and you can't explain a dietary cause for it, it could be a problem. On the other hand, a single reading of glucose could just reflect the higher level of sugar that you took in prior to the blood test.
