Hi all. I seem to have picked up a stomach bug and feel horrible. My question is, do any of you have any suggestions for slowing down the output? I have had diarrhea before, but I just can't seem to slow it down. I am drinking plenty, but haven't actually felt like eating. I know there are certain foods that help. Do you all have anything that you usually do or eat in a situation like this? Thanks!

I usually take Imodium, applesauce, mashed potatoes. I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry you are not feeling well. 🌻 A few foods that thicken my output are potatoes, marshmallows, white bread, and white pasta.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions, messages, and tips! So many have helped! We are learning as we go, learning the ins and outs of this bag. I have ordered special tape that does not irritate my skin and am now using Domeboro powder before putting on a new bag. My boyfriend says that my skin is so much less red!

Saw an ostomy nurse today; she said my boyfriend is doing everything right. One of my issues is that I am really thin, and my skin is really crinkly due to the surgery. We shall see how this bag goes.

This site is a real blessing. Everyone here is so awesome!

Let it run its course. Eating a bunch of plug-you-up type foods or taking plug-you-up type medicines might slow it down, but it may also really plug you up if the virus is basically done and you continue to intake stuff trying to stop it. I'd much rather deal with the “runs” for a short amount of time rather than plugging myself up and the pain involved with that.

I think Alex's advice is right on. Let the bug run its course and flush from your system, maybe even increase your fluid intake to help it out. I'm sure you don't feel like making your stool even more diarrhea-like, but it might speed things up. Feel better soon.
