Can I eat roasted red peppers... not hot... with the skin and seeds removed?

Only if you share can you add some Caribbean rice, black beans, and roasted pork in red sauce 😊

What type of ostomy do you have? If you're past the 6-week initial surgery window, you shouldn't need to purée it since it's already cooked; just chew well. Sorry, I thought it was your split pea soup post, but the answer is similar.

If roasted and past the 6 weeks, you shouldn't need to peel it, but avoiding the seeds is probably a good idea. Chew well. Start small. See how it goes. 😃

Justbreathe

MeetAnOstoMate website turned out to be a lifesaver for me. I say this because, for me, this ostomy journey was a devastating event both physically and mentally.
Here, I found folks who understood my feelings even better than my family or friends could. Only a fellow ostomate can understand how you really feel.

Information sharing is key, as well as support and understanding, to ultimately bring more harmony into our ostomy life journey. I found here, virtually no ostomy questions that are not touched upon. Questions which some might feel, may be too trivial to contact a doctor about or even too shy or embarrassed to ask their own doctor about. They are all addressed here.

For me, anonymity was very helpful in seeking answers to each phase of this life changing medical and mental event. Sharing initial trauma feelings, ongoing support and finally acceptance was what I found with my membership here. I am not sure what my mental and physical attitude would be today without having found this site.

Additional benefits included: finding products and ideas to help with daily maintenance, innovative ideas and as a bonus - some great humor.
After all “laughter IS the best medicine”.

I have been a member for 3 years, an ostomate for 4 years - yes, I certainly wish I would have found it immediately after surgery but so very thankful I finally found it when I did as I truly believe it turned my troubled depression and situation into a more positive attitude and acceptance.

Sincerely,
An Ileostomate nicknamed Justbreathe 🫶🏼

I believe peppers fall into the nightshade categories. Some people have problems with those. Other nightshades are onions, mushrooms, and potatoes, I think. Look up the symptoms for allergies to nightshades. If you don't have allergies and you're past your surgery healing time, do what Crappy said and eat small bits.

Honest answer: I don't know if you can. I have an ileostomy and can eat them; you just have to try a small amount to see if it's right for you. Trying a small amount, if it were to cause a problem, would be short-lived.

I have a great recipe for red peppers. Cut them in half and roast them in the oven. When well roasted, even a little burnt, take them out and put them in a plastic bag, seal the end, and leave them for a good 1 or 2 hours. This makes them sweat, and the skin just pulls away really easily. I then cut them into strips and put them in a jar with olive oil, and they keep for months in the fridge. Great on a sandwich or added to stews. Enjoy. Regards, IGGIE

Jeanne, you sound like you're converting to living under the dictatorship of Bob 😜

I ate stuffed peppers the other day, and I'm still here. The skin is annoying, but I just swallowed and hoped for the best. Everything came out as usual. No visible cues.

I am 3 months post-surgery with an end ileostomy. Everyone is different, but so far I've been good eating most things. Start small and try cutting it up into small pieces just in case.

Jody, is it? Hahaha. I can handle anyone who is funny, even very opinionated dictators. 😂😘

Ben, I find I must agree. In my practice, I have seen lots of people ask questions about "Can I eat...?" and then fill in the blank. I have occasionally found, though, that these are people who never craved this particular fruit or vegetable before, and now they do. So, I would say just the same as what you advised: try a small amount and then increase gradually, just like we introduced new foods to babies.
