A SILVER LINING?
We think of silver linings and
by this, most people understand
that when dark clouds may threaten us,
then something good emerges thus.
I can recall the time I spent
chronically incontinent,
and constantly racked with great pain;
I would not want that back again.
And I remember the distress,
from dealing with the awful mess
that incontinence created,
which was something that I hated.
Like a dark storm-cloud overhead,
making me wish that I was dead,
there was no silver lining there
for this was more than I could bear.
A silver lining was for me
‘because’ I had an ostomy,
for if it had not come along
who knows what else might have gone wrong.
My ostomy has saved my life,
and freed me from the angst and strife
that I had suffered years before,
which I do not have anymore.
Now my waste is manageable
and my life is salvageable.
All of my past pain has now gone,
which helps me as I soldier on.
My stoma is my main support,
which I would like to now report
represents my silver lining
for now I feel the sun is shining.
