I am losing 500 ml of liquid a day from a disconnected J-pouch. Does anyone else have this problem, please?

Hello Marie57,

I've read many posts from our fellow ostomates about J pouch troubles. I'm assuming you've had a medical evaluation of your particular J pouch "disconnection." If you have not had doctors review your current condition, that would be the best course of action. Everyone is different, even those of us with the same type of ostomies. I hope your trouble can be corrected, and wish you good health.

Great place for newbies to learn, I have helped many folks on here learn to irrigate, plus learned a few tricks myself. Great informative site.

I cannot give any firsthand advice other than I think you should get yourself to A&E.

When you say disconnected… how do you know it's disconnected? Some sort of procedure or?

I've had a J pouch since 2011, which was perfect until an unrelated intestinal cancer problem caused it to be deactivated and a 'temporary' loop ileostomy created in 2018.

My J pouch produces mucus on a daily basis, which varies from being thick and sticky to watery. The amount varies from a couple of teaspoons to about a quarter of a pint.

My gastro surgeon says this is perfectly normal.
