Struggling with Positivity 5 Weeks After Surgery

I am two years since my ileostomy and stoma. I have a reversal option, but there are too many horror stories about wearing diapers until, and if, muscles decide to take over. Absolutely no thanks, not another risk in surgery for 4.5 hours and two weeks in the hospital. With a stoma, just rinse out when needed; no big deal, no real life changes. One local young lady had the reversal reversed back to a pouch; the mess was unbelievable. We are alive and well and accept it. 😀

I am like you right now; my stoma sits below my skin, and it is so sore because of this. I am going to have it moved and lifted above my skin soon, deciding whether to have my small intestine hooked back to my rectum. I have no large intestines, but using two rings, does that keep the output and all the liquid off your skin? I've been using a thick wax ring, but it doesn't help with that, though it works to keep the bag from leaking.

It's not that I wear it to cover the fact that I'm bald... it's because my head is either too cold... or needs shade from the sun. You folks with hair really take for granted what a thermal regulator it is.

Four minutes is pretty impressive. I can do about 10 minutes, including the time it takes to set everything up. They have Nathan's hot dog eating contests... maybe we should start a Quickest Barrier Change competition. I think for the hot dog eating contest you have to not vomit for 30 minutes... so for the barrier change we'll have to say something like no leaks for 24 hours... or such. I'll get working on beating that four minutes... so you best get busy trying to lower it yourself. Because I'm onto you, Sis.

Ileoanal anastomosis (IPAA), also known as J pouch. There are pros and cons to having this done instead of having an ostomy. Arm yourself with knowledge before committing.

Yes, the two rings are working. Like you, I'm experiencing sore skin too, so the thin skin barrier ring can either be placed around the stoma or on top of the other ring attached to the base plate. I prefer to assemble it all on the base plate as it's a quicker change, and I felt when I put it around the stoma, it all swelled up and trapped the output. I've also been changing daily to treat the sore skin, and it seems to be working.

No.  Didn't discover anything about it.  I had read the replies before they morphed to "correct."  So I know there was a change.  Must be a software glitch on this web site.  

Notifications don't work well.  I've created new topics, that didn't make it onto the notification page.  And discovered topics from other ostemates not on the notification  page.  Also humor/funny topics aren't included either.  Why not??  We all need a little humor to get us through the day.  Having an ostomy is.. not fun.

The "likes" notifier is inconsistent as well.

I noticed too this site changes quite a lot. One min you can instant message the next you can't ,can't send a photo thru email either which I'm not sure why. I have also noticed weird glitches in what you have said. Also the time for messages is so way off base and the notification for when you have an email is off too.
