I've quit taking it since receiving a warning about it long ago, but I forget what its negative effects were.

Care to fill me and everyone in on what it does to ileostomates?

Not a lot really can make your output red, just as many foods can, and other colors depending on what you've eaten. It's nothing to avoid; eat up and enjoy. Personally, I enjoy seeing all the colors of the rainbow coming out. I've got some beetroot to put through my Nutribullet today; that will be fun coming out in a few hours' time. 🙂

I've read and heard negative opinions about food dyes. Bad for our health. Blah... blah... blah. Red dye #3 and titanium dioxide are frequently mentioned villains. I know many yummy foods and colorful candies are not good for my health. But, I still enjoy them in moderation. The only difference between me and a fit, healthy eating person is this: They are dying just a little slower. Time for me to munch some "Mike & Ike" candies. Keeps me regular.

Red dye makes my stoma go nuts. It will spit it out and anything that came along with it in a big way. I ate a piece of red cake once and there was so much red dye and poop that it was all over the place. This was before I could keep a bag on, before my relocation surgery, and I had to wear a diaper around my stoma to catch output. It was not a successful venture. But the whole of the diaper was red and soaked. I will never forget it because the red dye was just so red and so everywhere. Now that I can wear a bag, I would imagine I'd be emptying it all the time if I ate red dye. I avoid it now because of that experience, at least I avoid red cake.

Thanks for that. In your case, food dye wasn't bad for your health... it was very bad for your stoma and everything else near it.

So far, I haven't had any colors come out of my colostomy. 😊

Aw no colors. Bummer. I drank a blue Powerade and had blue output; it was kind of funny, more funny than the red dye. That was a disaster, mostly because it was before I could wear a bag. The blue output came out in a bag. I have yet to get purple though. I keep eating beets and hoping, but nope, no purple. I have had green too. I'm a rainbow of colors. I have an ileo though, so that might be why.

Ok... I'm jealous 😊  Anymore colors pop out, you'll have to nickname your stoma "Rainbow" or "Prism."
