Smaller ring did the same thing; we made it through the night, but that's it. This morning I'm trying just a piece of ring on the side that keeps leaking in hopes that I will make it through church without trouble. EDIT TO ADD: made it through church, but just barely. Now I'm back to the Convatec bag with no ring at all. Did the Domeboro soak for 15, then let it air for as long as I dared, then powder, then spray, then powder, then spray, drying in between each. Then just the bag. It didn't hurt too bad when I pressed on it to make sure it was attached, but now I'm producing like it's gone out of style. Maybe the buildup of powder and spray will do the trick? I sure hope so.

About seven years ago, just about every aspect of my life was ostomy related. From the moment I was told an ostomy might be needed until some months down the road I existed as a person afflicted with a colostomy. I feared someone other than my immediate family might find out I had a bag. Ugh! What could be worse? Suppose it filled real fast when I was out with no place to hide and take care of myself. God forbid should it leak in church! Suppose I roll over on it in bed. I was a lesser creature, destined to a life of emotional anguish and physical routines different from most of the rest of the world. I felt like a freak. Then I found folks like you guys here, read your stuff, really “listened” to what you had to say and I began looking at things differently. We know perception is everything and I began to understand how good things were relative to what they could’ve been. So many folks had it so much worse than I did. That didn’t make my discomfort go away but it exposed how fortunate I was to be dealing with my stuff and not their’s. I felt a little guilt, maybe selfishness but quickly forgave myself by understanding I just wasn’t smart enough to fix my feelings. Then, I wonder what smarts have to do with feelings. My perception was warped so my perspective toward my existence was warped.
I learned over the last few years with the help of lots of folks right here at MAO that I could be better at living just by accepting some facts. It is what it is and so what? It’s not the worst thing to happen to a person.
I think everything is, in some way, related to everything else. I just put the ostomy thing in the back seat and drive forward.

Have you got an appointment with a stoma nurse yet? This is your best bet to try and fix your problem.

When I have skin breakouts or even to prevent them, I actually use Flonase spray on my skin. I make sure the skin is very dry before I apply the pouch. But, I also think it's time to see a nurse or get a professional recommendation.

No appointment yet, but I tried Mastisol last night; I basically glued it on, and where I had glued, it stuck. So, I changed it and glued everywhere around the stoma. So far, so good. I've ordered more Mastisol, which should arrive tomorrow, as I'm at the bottom of the barrel with my current bottle. I do remember using this when my stoma was pretty new and my belly was all swollen from surgery, so nothing would stay put. It does sting when I first put it on, but then it calms down. The smell is pretty bad, so I make sure the window is open when I'm using it. I really just want the output to go to the bag instead of sitting on my skin!

That's the spray adhesive I use as well. If you let the spray dry for a few seconds—fan the area with your free hand if you can—it gets a little more tacky, and I find the pouch adheres better. I'm glad you're trying to get it right, as we never give up!

I ended up not continuing the Mastisol as it also irritated my poor skin. I also could not use the purple glue as that irritated my skin as well. I am happy to report that my skin is much improved, but it took changing the type of bag I was using and using a Dermabond cover over the broken skin. This is the current state of my skin around the stoma/hole, and this is after a few extremely hot and sweaty days here. For those recommending a surgeon, I have an appointment next week to discuss our next steps for this beast.

You really need to get that relocated to a better spot and to be protruding about 1 inch.
