Hernia Repair

I finally have a surgeon interested in repairing my Peristomal Hernia! Others wouldn’t touch me with a 10 foot pole saying “too risky”. Too risky?!!! Do you have any idea what I’ve been through to deal with this?? This bag has consumed me-caused me extreme mental anxiety, depression, lack of self confidence to a once outgoing person!!! I DON’T CARE ABOUT RISK!

So end of August can’t come soon enough.

Justbreathe : Wow - I too have a parastomal hernia and this is the first I've heard surgery is too risky. The only thing my surgeon said was you can be fitted for a hernia belt. Since I have been told I can have a reversal (ileostomy) I figured the only time I'd plan a reversal is if the hernia needed to be repaired. Your post has opened my eyes a little wider in terms of searching out answers to many of my hernia/reversal concerns. As much as I hated having an ostomy, I have learned to accept it and live with it. Took some to to get to this point and I admit some days I think maybe I should have it done - so thanks for sharing this.

I had a parastomal hernia develop a few weeks after I had an ileostomy. After a few months I went into hospital for a reversal, and asked that the hernia be removed at the same time. I was told it would be .
After the reversal surgery my tummy was very swollen, but there seemed to be a more defined swelling on the hernia site. I asked if it had been removed and was told it had. On being discharged from hospital I expressed concern about the swelling that I thought was the hernia still there.
Nothing to worry about' they told me.
As my body returned to normal, the swelling I was concerned about has stayed and is the size of a medium orange ????
I saw a GP who said it might or might not be a hernia, but she had no idea what it was if it wasn't a hernia!
Hope all goes well for you Barbyh. And if there's anyone else who has had an experience like mine, I would be so pleased to hear from them.
And while I'm writing thank you to everyone for being such a wonderful support along a road I didn't really want to take!
