An ostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the abdomen to allow for waste to be removed from the body. While an ostomy can greatly improve a person's quality of life, it can also come with some challenges, such as odor from the waste. To help combat odor, there are many commercially available ostomy deodorants, but it is also possible to make a homemade ostomy deodorant using natural ingredients. Here is one recipe you can try:
Ingredients:
· 1/2 cup baking soda
· 1/2 cup cornstarch
· 5-10 drops of essential oil (such as lavender, peppermint, or lemon)
· Small container with a lid (such as a spice jar or a small plastic container)
Instructions:
· In a bowl, mix together the baking soda and cornstarch.
· Add 5-10 drops of your chosen essential oil and mix well. You can adjust the number of drops depending on how strong you want the scent to be.
· Transfer the mixture to the container with a lid.
· Sprinkle a small amount of the deodorant powder directly into your ostomy bag as needed.
Note: Be sure to test this deodorant on a small area of skin first to ensure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Additionally, this homemade deodorant is not a substitute for proper ostomy care, including regular bag changes and proper hygiene.
