Get down to 15% body fat

I was decent in shape when my s-pouch failed. I was extremely sick for months until they figured out it wasn't pouchitis, during that time I did nothing but lay on my couch, and I couldn't eat. After surgery to remove the S-pouch and fit me with an ileostomy I could finally eat foods that I hadn't been able to eat for longer than I can remember, and over the course of a year and a half I gained 70 lbs.


So my goal is to get back into shape and start lifting weights and exercising again and achieve 15% body fat. I'm nervous because I don't want to risk a hernia but I need to do something, I need to do more than just cardio. 


 


Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I've only had the bag for a year and a half.

Newbie Dana : Look into a support belt for when you exercise. This should help prevent a hernia. Nu-Hope makes a good one. Talk to your doctor if you are nervous about it. Feb 02, 2016
GraphX12 : Just a word of caution: After my ileostomy surgery at the Mayo Clinic the surgeon told me I now have a weight restriction of 45 lbs. for the rest of my life. I wore a hernia belt but within a year of my initial surgery I had to have hernia repair surgery. After that surgery, the surgeon told me if the hernia returns I will most likely have to have stoma relocation surgery.

Now, a year after that surgery, the hernia has returned - only larger. I know I'll have to have another surgery one of these days but now looking forward to it.

I can't stress enough to be careful when lifting. I have read numerous reports of multiple hernia surgeries. For me, the hernia is the worst part of having an ileostomy.
