Day Trip to Idyllwild: A Harley Ride and Ostomy Bag Experience

This topic is about a person who took a 300-mile motorcycle trip to Idyllwild and tested some ostomy products along the way. They used Hollister Flex wafers and New Image mini pouches and shared their experience to help others who might be considering similar products. Here are some helpful insights and advice from their journey:

- The Hollister Flex wafers and New Image drainable mini pouches stayed secure throughout the ride, even when the rider was shirtless. A belt was used, and the pouch clip was taped to prevent it from flying off, which had only happened once before.

- The rider suggests having an occasional "show your bag day" to embrace and normalize the use of ostomy bags.

- The floating-flange wafer used was Hollister #14603, size 2¼" (57 mm). It has a larger adhesive area for a better seal, and the hole is cut to fit the stoma.

- Adapt stoma cream was applied to prevent any burning sensation.

- The drainable mini pouch used was Hollister #18203, size 2¼" (57 mm).

- In 22 months, the rider only experienced one leak, which was caused by a welding burn-through.

- Sometimes, the rider mixes ConvaTec bags with Hollister wafers, which works well and costs about the same.

- Hollister is working on a stretch-to-fit wafer that will eliminate the need for cutting.

- An alternative Hollister combination is wafer #15204 with pouch #18194 (2¾"). Another user reported wearing this setup through various activities like dining out, boat repair, and spending a day in the sun without any issues.

- If Hollister wafers fail quickly (within 24 hours), it might be worth trying Coloplast SenSura wafers. A member mentioned they have a longer wear time during activities like camping and boating, although the bags are bulkier.
