Why Do My Internal Disposable Bags Fill Up With Air?

This topic is about dealing with the issue of disposable liner bags inside ostomy pouches filling up with air too quickly, a problem known as "ballooning." Here are some helpful tips and insights to address this:

1. To help with ventilation, you can pierce 2-3 tiny holes in the liner using a pin. Do this near the "neck," where the liner comes through the flange of the outer pouch. This allows gas to escape from the liner into the main pouch and then out through the pouch’s built-in vent.

2. Some products and alternatives mentioned include:
- ColoMajic disposable liners, which are available in British Columbia and South Carolina, USA.
- In a pinch, you can use 3-lb zip-top freezer bags as a substitute for commercial liners.

3. Make sure the snap ring is completely closed all the way around after inserting a liner. If not, it can lead to leaks or trapped air.

4. To extend the life of your pouches, rinse out solids and then soak used pouches overnight in a pail with laundry soap and a few splashes of bleach. This allows for multiple re-uses, which can be helpful if your insurance coverage is limited.

5. For odor control and easier drainage, consider using Hollister M9 drops or Hollister Adapt deodorant. Adding a small amount of baby oil inside the pouch or liner can also make emptying easier and reduce sticking.
