Stoma noise -fart filters

This topic is about managing the sometimes loud and embarrassing noises that can come from a stoma due to gas. The original poster shares their experiences and some creative attempts to address this issue, as well as a call for better solutions. Here are some insights and advice shared:

1. Stoma plugs, which were once used to quiet gas, are no longer available, prompting users to find alternative solutions.
2. Some do-it-yourself methods have been tried:
- Using tampons, which unfortunately become ineffective quickly as they get coated in mucus.
- Trying plastic nasal inhalers, which tend to clog and act like stopcocks.
- Considering the use of a porous sponge inside a plastic tube to help channel gas and reduce noise by supporting the stoma wall.
3. Regular irrigation can help keep output minimal, but it doesn't completely solve the noise issue when gas builds up.
4. If a loud noise does occur, some people find it helpful to simply say "excuse me" and move on, as most people around won't notice any odor unless the gas is released directly. Accepting the sound as a natural occurrence can help reduce feelings of embarrassment.
