Preventing Ostomy Pouch Slippage in Hot Weather

When the weather heats up, it can be a challenge to keep an ostomy pouch securely in place. If you're dealing with this issue, here are some practical tips to help you manage pouch slippage during those hot and sweaty days:

1. Consider using a roll-on deodorant on the skin around your stoma before applying the wafer. This old-school trick can enhance adhesion without breaking the bank.

2. Try Coloplast Brava Elastic Barrier Strips as extenders around the flange. You can request free samples from Coloplast. To save money, cut one strip in half and place the halves on opposite sides, either top and bottom or left and right, for a strong hold.

3. Reinforce the adhesion with Torbot Bonding Cement. Apply a thin layer to the wafer, wait about a minute, and then press it onto your skin. This cement provides a secure bond and can be easily removed with standard adhesive remover.

4. Add some mechanical support by wearing an ostomy belt that clips to the pouch. Many people living in hot, dry climates find that belts effectively prevent slippage. You can try different ostomy support belts available online and return any that don't feel comfortable.

5. Use flange extenders either in addition to or instead of a belt. Cutting extenders in half can help reduce costs while still providing extra adhesion, especially during outdoor activities in humid weather.
