Garlic Supplements for Crohn's Disease: Any Experiences?

This topic is about using garlic, either in pill form or fresh, to help manage symptoms of Crohn’s disease and reduce stoma bleeding. One person shared their experience of taking a 2,000 mg odorless garlic tablet daily, which they believe has helped reduce bleeding and improve their overall condition. They are curious if others with Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis have tried garlic and what their experiences have been. Here are some insights and advice from others:

1. Many people prefer using whole, fresh organic garlic instead of pills. For easier digestion, try this method:
- Peel the garlic cloves and remove all the papery skins.
- Boil the cloves in about 1 cup of water until they are completely soft.
- Eat the softened cloves and use the garlic-infused water in soup or drink it to get the nutrients.
- This preparation makes garlic less pungent and easier on sensitive stomachs.

2. While raw, stir-fried, or lightly baked garlic can offer health benefits, it might be too harsh for some people. Cooking garlic thoroughly can help make it more tolerable.

3. Garlic can also be used topically for wound or skin healing. Slice a raw clove in half, apply it briefly to the cleaned area (it might sting a bit), then cover with gauze or a bandage. You can also soothe the area with fresh aloe-vera gel afterward.

4. It's generally encouraged to combine natural remedies like garlic with prescribed medical treatments and to continue exploring dietary strategies.
