I'm a long term care LPN and love my job. Rectal cancer brought me into the world of a permanent colostomy 6 years ago. I have a very supportive family and a very loving, understanding wife. My medical profession has allowed me access to better understand and cope with the issues we deal with of "ostomy life".
Like everyone else, I endure those embarrassing moments...gas, leakage, odour, skin problems...the list goes on.
I developed a peristomal hernia and had it repaired.
I irrigate my ostomy and can't count the number of times I spilled over and made a mess somewhere.
I love life and face my challenges, sometimes not as fast as I would hope to, but I get thru it.
Working in the medical community allows me to connect with so many other's like a tight community. There's a lot of us out there and we all have our success stories.
This is a great community to share and not be embarrassed about your challenges. I love to read about everyone's stories and how they overcome diversity. Thanks everyone for sharing!!
