About
Hi I am an Australian-born American. I have lived in New York since 1968.
I have been married to my Norwegian/Welsh wife for 47 years. Still very much in love. So lucky. We have three children and five grandchildren. Our oldest son passed away last year from liver failure. He was a beautiful boy.
My wife and I spend 50% f our time in NY and 50% in Key West.
Our business (retirement really) is in Key West. We own a hotel/resort. We have a great GM. He does the heavy lifting very well. We're good friends. Our kids and his kids are good friends too. Its a family.
I am a deprived (CD and UC combined) fine food and wine fan and major travel fan.
Got to see as much as I can before I can't go anymore.
Yesterday, I was told that I will need to have surgery and be on a colostomy bag permanently.
I've been fighting against this eventuality for 37 years. Not a bad run.
I cried when I was told, but I am climbing over that HUGE wall of acceptance now and want to know what my best options are with bags, bands, swimwear etc.
I love being active. Swimming, sailing and surfing.
I need your help and recommendations and your experiences with different bag types. Which are best for water, sport etc. Flushable, disposable, drainable?
My colon is essentially gone already. Maybe 8-9" left. That was removed about 7 years ago. My colon was pre-cancerous so it was a prophylactic decision. Based on what I've read tonight my stoma will be higher rather than lower and my stool will be more like a liquid. Sound right?
My wife and I will be very grateful for your help.
Another major question. What kind of food CAN'T YOU EAT? What foods cause problems? What are those problems? Hoping I can eat properly after this. Not sure if that's so.
Thank you for your thoughts and contributions,
Chris
God bless.
