I am recently retired from a career as a counsellor for children and their families. Of specific interest for me was bereavement counselling, particularly suicide and homicide bereavement. I counselled and facilitated therapy groups for people who had lost loved ones to suicide or homicide, and taught workshops on those topics for professionals. I am married to my best friend, a retired high school teacher of English literature. We have one son, currently finishing a PhD in cognitive neuroscience.

I struggled with my 2015 cancer diagnosis and colostomy surgery, and engaged in counselling, which was extremely helpful. I also suffered radiation injury, which impaired the healing of my surgical incision. I eventually participated in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which laid the foundation for my incision to finally close, two and a half years after my surgery. I am a big fan of hyperbaric medicine, and will discuss it at length with anyone who will listen!

I have found this site to be a wonderful resource, full of a variety of experiences, and I have learned a lot from it. I hope to pay that back by contributing to this site, helping people who are in the same fog that I was in when I had my surgery.

I have purposely left my ethnicity vague on my profile. I am not here looking for a partner, so I don’t believe that my ethnicity has any bearing on my ability to make a comment.
