I don't really care who talks to me on this site, I'd just like to meet other people in my area (or not in my area to talk to online) who are living with an ostomy, so we can find something to talk about!
I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in October of 2011. It was genetically inherited because I got a DNA mutation (called Lynch Syndrome) from my father. I went from doctor to doctor until finally I settled with Duke University and went there. My proctocolectomy (where they removed my rectum and colon) was done on April 24, 2012... So I'm new at this!
I haven't let having a permanent ileostomy stop me from living my life though, and I'm not going to. Just because I have a bag doesn't mean my life is over, I can still do just about everything I did before :)
You just have to have the drive to continue and not let things get you down.
