I am rather self-sufficient and independent, accustomed to a lot of time alone, but I'm open to the surprises that keep life interesting. My surgery for ulcerative colitis that resulted in an ileostomy was almost 60 years ago, so I seldom think about it, and it doesn't identify me. But I have considerable sympathy for those who must adjust to new plumbing as an older adult.

My social, religious, and political views are left of center, and I've been called, both negatively and positively, a liberal tree hugger. My lifestyle is frugal and conservative and I strive for a minimalist attitude about material stuff. I'm more likely to spend money on gas for the car or an airplane ticket than new shoes (except for hiking boots).

People I like usually read widely; have well thought-out opinions; value intelligent conversation; respect science and evidence based reasoning; and learning did not stop when they exited the school house.

I have a special interest in native plants and wild birds.
