Hi everyone, I hope you all managed to have a good Christmas and New Year! Unfortunately, I've been flaring with Crohn's for a year now. It became serious in the summer when I was hospitalized for a month and put on Humira to complement my Methotrexate and Sulfasalazine that weren't controlling it. I've had a colostomy (mine's called 'Henry' as it's like a hoover, except it blows instead of sucking lol!) for three years after my descending colon was removed after it went septic. The flare I have now is at the end of the Ileum. I am in a great deal of pain, bleed quite frequently, and have been hospitalized again since the summer through anemia, as I was pouring out blood for three weeks. I see my gastro-nurse at the end of the month. I've been on Humira for 6 months now, but it neither controls the flare-up nor my awful joint swelling, and they are thinking of taking me off it. I just wondered if anyone knew whether I can opt voluntarily to have a colectomy? What I don't want is emergency surgery again. I'd rather be in control of what happens. Thanks x
