First, how much water should I drink per day? And does everyone who has a urostomy pouch sleep with the overnight drainage bag?

I think the recommended amount of fluids per day is 8 to 10 glasses. There is some controversy about whether coffee can be counted in that amount. I have taken to drinking soda water (I make it with one of those home machines) and that has really helped me to get that much liquid.

I do use a nighttime collection bag for my urostomy. I don't really like it - it's so "medical", and inconvenient when traveling, and then there's the whole issue of being conscious of the tubing while you sleep, making sure it doesn't twist, making sure the pouch is emptying, etc. But worse for me, anyway, would be waking up every 3 hours to empty my pouch.

I have read, though, on other discussion groups - specially formed groups for urostomy patients - that a few people do prefer to get up and empty a pouch rather than hook up to that nighttime collection bag.
