I have finally had j pouch surgery on feb 25, am still in the hospital (nursing home) and this was the hardest thing to endure in my life. They had to remove my uterus because of fibroids and it was in the way before the did the other surgery. Hhad a bowel blockage and was throwing up, had an ng tube for 2 days to pump my stomach, things got infected and I've got an abscess in my abdomen and a wound vav for the incision to close up....I am depressed.

Aww, I am sorry you are having such a time. If I remember correctly you were somewhat looking forward to having the surgery. I think you were trying to stay positive and healthy so you could be somewhat prepared. I have also had a blockage after my initial surgery while healing. Yup, the incision wound takes quite sometime to heal. Specialist came all the time to keep an eye on things. I had a total hysterectomy without knowing before hand.
But YOU'LL get there! You are on the mend. Don't let yourself down, your state of mine affects your body and your healing. I like many others know it is easier said than done, but you can do this! I ended up with Clostridium Difficile, better known as c-diff. and believe me that was worse than the surgery or all the care the wound needed. It almost killed me.
What can you do pitterpatter while your there? Like to read, got a book? What about crosswords or seek and find books? How about some company or are you able to be outside for a time to get some sunshine? Music, do you have music to listen too? You don't have much on your profile to help me out here, but there has to be something.....do you know we just celebrated one of the most Holiest Days, what most refer to as easter? Do you know what it is all about? Just think what He suffered.... and for who....
You will look back on these days and share your experience with someone and it will make a difference.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hello pitterpatter.  Sorry to hear that things have not gone as well as you expected. Many, if not most people get depressed after surgery. I believe that this can be especially so for women who have surgery that also affects their hormonal balance. However, this does pass with time and you will, no doubt  get back on you feet again and have a more positive outlook. Mrs A. seems to have some good, practical ideas for helping with this process and I hope you can feel up to trying some of them. I hope you recover soon.  Best wishes  Bill
