This UC San Diego Professor Planned His Surgery In Virtual Reality

Posted by annofsd, on Thu Mar 09, 2017 2:14 pm

KPBS has an article about a computer scientist who had a 3-D model made of the part of his colon that was going to be cut out. Access the article at His surgeon used the model in preparation for the surgery and the 3-D image during surgery. The surgery was successful and he is recovering nicely. "It remains to be seen whether other bowel surgeons will want to incorporate 3-D imaging into their operating rooms. Ramamoorthy said she is enthusiastic about the idea. She plans to use 3-D imaging with more of her patients in the hopes of standardizing this approach."

Hi annofsd,

Interesting story about this computer scientist. He has some background information I found interesting. Funny how life leads us from one thing to another.
