Has anyone had a parastomal hernia repaired and were they able to continue irrigating their colostomy after the repair? I have several surgeons giving me different outcomes.

Hello Nature Girl.  I opted not to have the hernia repair because this sort of outcome was unclear. There is no way I would want to lose the oportunity of irrigating and I would be making that very clear to any surgeon who was thinking of operating on me.

If you have several surgeons giving you different advice, then it sounds as if there is no definitive answer to your question. Personally, I cannot see any reason why a repaired hernia should stop you irrigating after the required healing period (usually six weeks or more after surgery depending on your healing rate).

Best wishes

Bill
