Hi all,
Some of you might be knowing that I am a colorectal cancer survivor and I am almost 7 years past my treatment. For the last 4 weeks, I have been having this pain in my butt. I consulted my doctors and they gave me antibiotics and penicillin shots. However, there is no discharge, swelling, or foul smell from the back. The pain is mostly felt when I sit, and my job is such that I have to sit almost all throughout the day. At times, I have this urge to strain. It almost feels like something is clogged up back there...lol

I would appreciate if you good people can advise me on what exactly to do and if I should be really worried about it. I take my health very seriously, after having survived cancer and having seen my mom go down with it. I tend to get nervous very easily. Anyone else here who is past the treatment this long and feels the pain in the butt?

I look forward to hearing from you all soon.
Thanking you all in advance.

Kind regards,
Jabid

Hi Jabid.  There are other folks here who had similar symptoms.  I think the consensus was to consult with the colorectal folks.  There are things like "Phantom" signals and stuff way beyond my understanding.  Please consult with the experts and fill us in.

Respectfully,

Mike

Bula (Hello in Fijian), Mike

Thanks for your reply. I am hearing that for the first time myself. I am hoping someone would be able to explain to me in detail.

I would hope that a colorectal physician would explore the possibilities with you. You may even want to talk with your oncologist. At 7 years out, I hope you are having annual scans still. If not, they may order scans to see if there is an issue and that would certainly be peace of mind for you. I would certainly ask to see a specialist for your concerns!

Hello Puppy

I had a PET scan done 2 years back and X-rays and sonography in Dec last year. They didn't pick up anything significant and all was good. But I will definitely have a scan done, perhaps a full body CT scan?

Thanks

I certainly would recommend a chest/Abd/Pel. Then, if any suspicions of trouble are there, then a PET. Any type of cancer tends to gravitate to hollow and filter organs. Lungs, liver, bladder, kidney, colon, etc. You can never be too careful, and everything is suspect for recurrence! I believe it is better to know the facts through test results than wonder. That will drive you crazy! Chances are, it is nothing, so you can be relieved when it is all tested!

Keep us posted!

Hi Puppy

Thanks again. I consulted my doctors yesterday and they filled in the prescription/order forms for a pelvic x-ray and abdo-pelvic contrast CT. I will let you know how it goes.

Hello Puppy

So I had the pelvic x-ray and superficial USG, and the results are unremarkable. No discrete cyst, mass, localized collection, or calcification seen. No hypervascularity noted upon color Doppler studies to suggest an inflammatory process. The surrounding soft tissue appears unremarkable.

I have been advised by doctors in India to have a lateral x-ray of the pelvis focusing on the sacrum and coccyx to rule out coccydynia.

Thanks again, Puppy.

Peace of mind is a great thing! Glad you are able to breathe easier knowing something serious has not come up! Hope they can get that done soon and it is as successful! I just had my three-month scans and they were all good so I have that peace as well!

Keep us posted! I know I always feel better knowing what is happening, better yet, what is not happening sometimes! Lol

Bula, Jabid.  It looks like Puppy offered some great advice and you followed  beautifully.  I'm thinking you're learning a lot from this venture and you WILL get the results you want.  Keep up the good work and, please, keep us posted about your successes.

Sincerely,

Mike

Hello Jabid,

I have a colostomy and the only time I feel like this is when some mucus has gone hard in my rectum and got stuck there. It can also make my legs ache because it presses on nerves. I hope you can resolve this as it is very uncomfortable.

Best wishes

Beshlie

Bula (Hello) Puppy

Thank you once again, my dear friend in Ostomy! I went back to my onco-radiology, and they refused to do any further X-rays. They said the scans and X-rays done are enough to rule out anything serious, and given my history of intense radiation therapy and the exposure to scans/X-rays, they do not want to expose me to future radiation.

Interestingly, I feel better now, and I no longer have that pain in my back. I am not sure if it was some sort of "psychological" thing. Like I said earlier, I tend to get nervous too easily.

I hope you had a blessed Easter weekend. It is back to the office for me. (9:16 am Tuesday as I write).

Much love and God bless

Bula Mike!

Thank you for your kind words, mate. I am feeling so much better now. The pain has gone away itself. I was on antibiotics and penicillin shots for 4 long weeks, and I think it took quite some time for it to do the magic.

Sending you my warmest regards from Fiji.

Jabid.

Hi Beshlie

I had the same feeling of pain down my legs. May I know how do you overcome that when you are faced with mucus build up?

Thanks

Jabid

Vinaka, Jabid.  I hope we continue to communicate and learn from each other.  I think your doctors advised you correctly.  In time we improvise, adjust, even invent whatever we need to make things better.  You WILL be well.

Blessings,

Mike

I am very impressed with your command of the Fijian language, buddy! Have you ever been to Fiji? I would love to host you if and when you are out here next. Sending you positive vibes too.

Thank you again, Jabid.  I have not been to Fiji and sometimes feel like I'm just learning my own American English language.  I appreciate your kind comments and certainly your offer.  Who knows?  Anything's possible.

Sincerely,

Mike

I am so glad you are feeling better! I think we, who have had cancer or any of the many things that happen to get us where we are today, are very sensitive to what is happening in our body and suspect all small aches and pains as something bigger. So glad you have peace of mind now and can concentrate on living a great life.
