Eat. 😁 Take in as many calories as you can.

Yes, I would say make the most of it while you can.  Focus on foods that are good for you, but pack a high calorie punch, like foods rich in  good fats.  Avocadoes, nuts, nut butters, good oils, like olive, walnut, avocado.  Healthy carbs, like whole grains and beans.  Cook your proteins in good fats, as in saute your chicken in olive oil, rather than baking.  Fruits like bananas.  Adding the odd sweet treat won't hurt as long it's not too often.  Enjoy!

Since you asked about smoothies( or I think it was you without looking again), you can buy high calorie powders to add to smoothies, water, milk, or whatever you want.

Unless you are skin and bone, do you really want to put weight on. You are healthier at a lower weight than over weight. Think about it before you pig out on all the rubbish suggested to you.

A lot of people have lost drastic amounts of weight and nutrients while being on medications and going thru whatever their issues are. Putting weight back on and getting nutrients back into your system is usually good. But maybe it’s rubbish down under. 🤷‍♂️

Hi J,

That's sort of a loaded question.  It depends on why you lost the weight and what's changed since then.  Assuming you can still absorb everything you eat......the answer to your question is to gain it back smartly.  Packing on pounds of fat and flab won't make you any healthier, and end up hurting you down the line.  I'd get with a Dietician who understands your underlying issue(s) and see what they have to say.  Depending on what's going on with your digestive system, eating "everything" might not be smart and cause other issues.  I think that's all I can tell you without knowing more about what's going on with your health and where you're at now.  But regardless, you have a golden opportunity to do it right, and maintain or improve your health in the process.  Make the best of it!

I lost 1/3 of my body weight (150 lbs to 100 lbs in less than 3 months) due to my abdominal issues. I too am struggling to put the weight back on. I look sickly now and want to cry when I look in the mirror. I miss my curves. I’m trying a protein powder and other hulled hemp seeds added to my food but still can’t gain the weight back. 😞

I cried b/c my favorite pair of jeans is too big on me, actually almost of my pants are. The only thing that works for me until I go shopping are jeggings/leggings. My girlfriends without chronic illnesses were like isn’t that good? I said not when you’re not trying!!! My girlfriends with chronic health stuff get it. One of my Drs told me to try cbd to stimulate my appetite. It actually works some of time. Anything you feel like eating?

Hi Shannon

I typically lose 35 pounds at each of the surgeries I have had, 50 is a lot. I am naturally slim so getting back to normal is not easy for me but it comes eventually, you can only just keep plugging away at it, try different things , everyone is different, age, body shape. You don't say how long ago your surgery was and everyone heals at different rate. Maybe try some professional help, I had similar thoughts but the weight came back eventually.

I was struggling to hold at 110 when my problems first developed toward the end of May '22, I was actually wanting to gain a little weight then, but after surgery and hospitalization (6 days ICU, 4 days general), I dropped to 91. After almost exactly six months, I'd finally gained back the last of 17 pounds I lost to only end up sick in the hospital again, this time having colostomy placement surgery. Now I seem to be stuck at 102, and while I want to hurry up and gain it back, I know that I potentially have a reversal coming up within a couple of months so I'm trying not to stress myself about the weight issue right now. Although it would be nice to have a bit more "insulation" in this cold weather right now 😂

Hi Shannon,

I don't want to hijack JB's thread, but if you've lost 1/3 your bodyweight and are having trouble gaining it back......that should qualify you for PPN (Peripheral Parenteral Nutrition).  PPN is the lesser of the two evils (between PPN and TPN) and doesn't require a central line, so it's easier all around. But either way, your team of doctors should offer that option to you.  This way you'll gain your weight back while they're working on finding out what's going on with you, and when they start treating your issue you'll be much healthier, which is always a better place to start from.  Bring it up when you talk to your Docs.......like tomorrow.  If you're not gaining your weight back you're probably deficient in a number of key nutrients, so you need to get that figured out girl!  Oh yeah...........stop looking the mirror!

I hear ya. Thanks for the medical advice. I will ask next week when I go back for yet another check up.  And you’re rightist should stop judging the stranger I see in the mirror, but it’s hard. My clothes don’t fit, and I struggle to buy clothes that do. I can’t keep firing out money like a cash cow. It’s all just so frustrating, but it’s nice to finally find some support. Thank you all for taking the time to reply to my thoughts and feelings. It really does help. You all are wonderful.💜

I’m in the same boat. None of my clothes fit. I feel like a walking zombie most days.

I used the below twice a day. I got out of the hospital at 138 pounds and managed to gain 30 pounds in about 2 months to get me back to within 7 pounds of my weight prior to surgery to remove my colon. Since the average human colon weighs about 7.5 pounds, I figure I am where I need to be weight-wise. At 5 months post-surgery, I still need to get my muscle tone and stamina back. It's a slow process, especially at 75. But I am getting there.
