- - OPINION IN RHYME - -
They say we’re all entitled
To our own opinion.
Even if our own
Is one in a billion.
I wonder if that’s different
From one’s own perspective
If it’s formed from one’s perception
Rather than deception.
It seems to me
It starts with words
Some of which
Are for the birds.
But when spoken with force
What we hear might invoke
The suggestion of knowledge
Like “how smart is this bloke”?
When that is the case
And we repeat that thought
It’s not our opinion
It’s just something we bought.
To form an opinion
That’s worth sharing with others,
Takes the hard work of research
Setting aside our druthers.
We can’t allow bias
To interfere.
Our minds must be open,
There can’t be fear.
For what we may learn
May be far from expected.
And we might not enjoy
The way we’re affected.
So just blurting out
What sounded so good
Might be very unfair
Lest we do what we should.
We should listen intently
To the words that were uttered
And make sure our minds
Are completely uncluttered.
It’s simply a matter
Of pure respect
To understand clearly
And truly connect.
‘Cause if one makes the effort
To share their thinking,
They deserve our attention
To what they’re bringing.
So if we can learn
From words spoken or read,
Let’s cherish our fortune
And pursue more ahead.
Opinions are important
Parts of our living
And need to be developed
For the purpose of giving.
Because it just doesn’t matter
If we keep it to ourselves.
It’s a blessing to share
And help someone else.
So that’s all I have
At this time for sure.
A whole bunch of words
I hope wouldn’t bore.
And since I am free,
Not part of a dominion,
You know what’s next.
It’s just my opinion.
Respectfully,
Mike
