Take your pouch and make a patter out of it then use it to make pouch covers all yyou need to do is make a hole on the inside part it slip the pouch into the cover and bring it back over the top on the outside they are not hard to make, if you do not want something elaborate

Hi gang,

I was thinking what a great resource this site has been for me since I found it. It would have been really helpful, but maybe a bit scary, to have found it before my ostomy, but that's water under the bridge. But I got thinking about it, and now I'm questioning why doctors and hospitals don't provide this site's contact info to any patient even considering an ostomy today. And how can we change that so potential ostomates can learn about the road ahead for them by getting on here and asking questions before the docs go chop-chop. How exactly do you get all hospitals to provide their patients specific information, like this website?

I just happened to find this site something like 4 years after my ostomy when I Googled "ostomy forum" or something like that. But I never found it during previous searches.....so I found this site pretty much by pure luck. We need to find a way to make this site available to new or soon-to-be ostomates......as that's when we really need to commiserate with fellow ostomates. Anybody have any thoughts on how we do this?

Thanks,

Bob

On the below web site there is a pattern for pouch covers, I'm no seamstress either but found the pattern quite easy to follow.

Amen to that ~jo~ I am no seamstress but am happy with the ones that I have made. Even made a pouch pocket for days when the output is a bit heavy and it holds the weight very well. I hope to make some improvements to the "normal" pouch cover as in an different opening. When I do finally get around to it I will add to my blog.

I don't wear them much any more, but years ago when I had a bit of a rash or eczema underneath where the bag sits, I found wearing a cover over the bag kept the skin healthy (and in summer, less sweaty).

I have a couple with slogans, "Finally a bag to match my shoes" and "My other bag's a Gucci" which I wore to visits to my stoma nurse or doctor, which did cause a bit of a laugh.

I guess there is no real "need" for a cover but sometimes it's nice to have something other than boring beige under your undies, even if you are the only one that sees it!

I'm on a facebook site where I know of one woman who has no problem with flashing her bag and has several colour coordinated covers to match her clothes. It's all just personal preference I guess.

I've posted the below dutch website before but it has some ideas of why people wear them plus all other kinds of ostomy info.
