My journey began with having chronic UC in 1978 which lead to a traditional ileostomy in 1981. Two years later I got a Koch Pouch operation. Now 40 years later, my first marriage ended in divorce I believe because my ex couldn't or wouldn't accept that I wasn't physically the same person he married. I remarried and sadly he passed away after 6 years of marriage. I've been single ever since and after dating a few men and having ostomy conversation, those men also stopped dating me. Consequently, I've come to the realization I will most likely be alone for the remainder of my life. We are so much more than our ostomy, but sadly society often dictates appearances over character.
