Would like to share history, stories and encourage others who have an ostomy. Sometimes I find it a struggle with self-esteem and confidence when meeting new people; especially if I were to try and date again after a 17 year marriage. Have had multiple hospitalizations over the years..all due to residuals from abdominal cancer when I was 26. Lots of long term complications that I received from high dose radiation and chemo... Kidney and peripheral vascular damage, fractured femur (cost me a new hip :-) bowel blockage, etc. I’ve had an illeostomy for 20 years and have become somewhat “used to it,” but always nervous about leaks. Anxiety can kick into high gear when traveling internationally. My children are the world to me. I’m a very involved dad who really enjoys seeing my kids personalities develop as they get older. Faith is important to me, as it has helped me get through some very dark days. Friends would describe me as compassionate, caring and funny with a bit of sarcasm and smart ass thrown in! I’m a lover of all animals, especially dogs. I enjoy painting, drawing, gardening and woodworking/home remodeling when I have time from a very demanding profession. I wish all my ostomates the best and Gods blessing.
