About
"We may have all come in on different ships, but we're in the same boat now".

Had a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy procedure on May 22, 2023 to see if they got all of the cancerous polyp that was removed at my colonoscopy 3 months prior. Pathology was clear....but had unrelenting abdominal pain 4 days later - turns out the procedure perforated my colon. Had emergency Hartmann's surgery - woke up with a colostomy that may or may not be reversible due to the severe infections I had (Peritonitis and Sepsis). Spent 21 days in the hospital. Lucky and so grateful to be alive, yet emotional at times because I went from healthy to this so suddenly. Still trying to navigate colostomy and recovery - it has been slow going. Luckily I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 30 years and he is very supportive. Hoping to read information about Ostomy care, recovery tips, and reversal surgery!
