Hey, I need some ideas for things I can watch that don't require my complete attention while doing domestic stuff that is really boring for me.

If a dog or child dies in it, I don't want to watch it. My taste is pretty eclectic but I do really like British TV. I like documentaries as well. Currently I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney +, Paramount +, and Hulu.

Also open to book recommendations I can listen to on Audible or Hoopla, content preferable that nothing is embarrassing/wildly inappropriate if my kids pass by.

They're called "Soap Operas". Just check daytime TV on any major network. They got you covered. Lots of British ones too, with the funny accents. Will remind you of Monty Python or Benny Hill (my fave)!!

Sorry, I don't do audiobooks, as I prefer peace and quiet when driving... so no help to you there. But maybe if you turned the radio off you'd hear the cars you're always crashing into. Did you get the van fixed yet?

I know... I'm a brat.

I don't have regular tv, so no soap operas, does anyone actually like watching those? (sorry if that offends anyone)
Yes, you my friend, are most definitely a brat. And no, haven't got it fixed but I just realized my mom will see it next week, and I didn't want to tell her about it because then she'll tell my uncles (her side is all car people and it's like sacrilegious if your vehicle is not beautifully maintained). I was debating if it might be less expensive to drive it down to my one uncle in Chicago to fix it, but again I'd have to tell him what happened, but I'd get to see family so... It's not other cars that do damage to my van in parking lots and yes it only happens in parking lots- its the thingys that I don't know what they're called. Driving and me are good. Me and parking lots ehhh.

Which ones do you like? Is there one called Ponderosa or am I just thinking of a former restaurant chain? Bonanza?

Daisy2023

I like older sitcoms while I'm doing things and don't want to pay complete attention like Seinfeld, Frasier, King of Queens.. Plus I find Curb Your Enthusiasm hilarious.

crappycolondiaries

It's sad to me that we consider those older now. HS/College for me was Gilmore Girls and Friends and CSI- I think I watched every season when I had mono in college.

Might be Bonanza, Rawhide, Gunsmoke or any western movie from the late 50's 60's, and a few modern ones like Lonesome Dove, Dances with Wolves etc. Typically over the Christmas break I will just leave these things running on the TV while hanging around at home.

Was there a show called Ponderosa though? Or someone's ranch at least being called that? I don't know why that is stuck in my brain

Silly Rabbit.........Bonanza was the name of the show. It took place on their ranch, called the Ponderosa. And yes, there were also two different current day restaurants named Bonanza and Ponderosa. They were/are steak houses.

So I was technically right? That's how I'm taking your explanation.

I don't want to talk about Ponderosa/ steak, I threw up a lot during the test they did today at CC

So I thought Tombstone was a comedy because all I remember is the one guy saying "I'll be your huckleberry" but my husband just informed me it is not a comedy.

Hey Puker,

No, it wasn't a comedy. +1 for your hubby. Sorry to hear you did a lot of 'reverse-eating' at CC. Hope you're feeling better.

That is super puker to you. I should've gotten a sticker for not getting anything on the nurse. I'm good if I don't have a tube down my nose and them squirting water in my mouth to see how I swallow. My head was hurting so I stopped at Trader Joe's and got a banana and then $79 worth of other groceries because we needed stuff for sandwiches and my ADHD.

Figures you'd say my husband was right. But the huckleberry comment is really funny and why that's all I can remember about the movie I don't know.

Can't argue with the truth.

Living in Oz, I have no idea what the show Tombstone is. But how could you grow up in the US and not know that the Ponderosa is the ranch on Bonanza? I think the whole world knows that. I'll have to give you the benefit of the doubt as you have not been a well girl, but on the bright side, you can now watch all 440 episodes of Bonanza.

Right on Axl! Bonanza was the second longest running western, from 1959 to 1972, right behind Gunsmoke. But you have to cut ol' Crappy Car Crasher some slack. She was born way after that... in the era of parachute pants and big hair bands. She also probably never noticed that Charles Ingalls from Little House on the Prairie was Little Joe from Bonanza. Anyway, not her fault. And given that she has ADHD... she probably wouldn't have noticed Bonanza on TV even if she was around back then. I'm just wondering if she smashed up hubby's car on her journey to the hospital this time... or if she did a matching smash up job on the other side of the van?

Tombstone is apparently not a funny movie. You should watch it still. When you hear the huckleberry line, it will stay with you. I think reruns were on a cable channel called TNT? TBS? Of Bonanza that is about a ranch called Ponderosa? See why there is confusion for me because I was so little when I would've seen reruns? I asked my husband if he'd heard of Bonanza and he said no. So unfortunately not just a me issue &zwj

Oh, the brat has returned.
Do you know those dates in your head or did you google?

You can't forget the stirrup pants either and big headbands are coming back.

Oh oh! I know this one! Michael Landon- dark wavy hair then it was salt and pepper hair by Little House on the Prairie? I remember watching Little House on the Prairie at 6am before school, my mom had it on.
That darn car is absolutely fine. Anytime I drive it, nothing eventful happens and I wouldn't mind if that one got in an accident so it could be replaced. But it would make a good 1st car for my son because I don't want him having something nice to start with in 3 years. Crap. I'm gonna have a driver in 3 years. He used to be more responsible than me until puberty started turning his brain into slush. Crap crap crap. That's not a long time, I'm going to cry about this or something; it's making me feel old.

Oh and because y'all have been teasing me, you should watch this special on Netflix called 'Every Woman'

Axl

Don't know bonanza... can't believe it... What about rollerblades and Walkmans, can't see them coming back. What about music videos, concerts on DVD etc to fill the day. Look up "Mr. Inbetween," three seasons from memory, I think it may be on Amazon now, it's the best thing I've ever seen, but then again I'm still watching Mash...

History is good, lots to learn. I watched the episode where Klinger pretends to be Moses the other day, only a short segment but cry laughing every time I see it.

When I truly don't want to get distracted from what I'm doing (read: stop cleaning to sit down and watch the show), I go with series that I've seen before but not in a while. Shows with multiple seasons are great so you can just pick up where you left off - Star Trek (several to choose from), GBBO, MacGyver (the original), classic sitcoms (I Love Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, etc.), MASH, Remington Steele, Hart to Hart, Golden Girls. More current shows I like are usually crime dramas so they may not be what you have in mind - NCIS, Blue Bloods, SWAT, etc.

If you haven't taken some time to rate what you like (and don't like) on Netflix, you should try that. If you give them enough info in rating your choices, their recommendations are usually spot on.
