I posted this the other day in the "Incident on a plane" thread. There was a lot of activity there and this priceless gem from Benedict Cumberbatch may have been overlooked. Or people just didn't like it. But, I refuse to believe the latter is true. This had me laughing so hard it hurt.  This is about shit, but just not the human kind. So, in case you missed it and haven't seen it... :-)

OMG, I'm glad you re-posted this, as I did not see it the first time.  Hilarious!  The Empress is a famous old hotel in our capital (B.C.'s).  I haven't stayed there, but have imbibed and eaten in their bar and restaurant.  I hope they saw fit to give that poor guy a break and lift his life time ban!

They did after he sent this letter 18 years later and three days after it was posted it online.

I would’ve hated to be housekeeping that day 😳 Too bad he didn’t get a picture 😁

It is pretty amazing that the guy didn't know better though.  The Empress is a harbour-front hotel and seagulls are everywhere.  This guy was from Halifax, which is a harbour-front city.  I mean, duh!!

Seagulls are maybe better behaved in Halifax? Nah! I grew up on the north shore of Lake Michigan and they weren't well behaved there either. :-)

Since BC is my home and the Empress is my favorite hotel, this is THE MOST hilarious story I've ever heard. My next stay in said hotel will be better for it, and I'll always wonder if I'm in the Pepperoni/sea gull room!

Hey, welcome to a fellow B.C.er (is there another term for someone from B.C., ie, B.C.ite?").  I love the lovely old Empress myself, although I haven't stayed there.  If I ever do, I might just request the Seagull/Pepperoni room!

Guess I am going to have to try a BC vacation someday. I would definitely try to request that room just to say I've been there! :-)

B.C. is a beautiful province and definitely worth a visit, although I'm a little biased having been born and raised here.   The southwest coast and the islands, including Vancouver Island are amazing, but you need some time to explore.  Vancouver is a pretty cool city too, if you are into cities.

Really only have ever been to Ontario. Sault Ste Marie, Sarnia, Windsor, London, Toronto. Ex Michigander, ya know.

Toronto is wonderful, but haven't been there since the 70s. Saw Shawn Phillips in London. Also in the 70s. Next time we visit our son in Seattle I would like to at least get to Vancouver.

Seattle is a great city.  If you make it that far, you really should get up to Vancouver, and then it's just a hop on the ferry to explore Vancouver Island and the gulf islands.
