Not quite sure how I ended up here. A colostomy was certainly nothing I had ever expected in my life. But, then, who really expects it. I suffered from a diverticular abscess for a couple of months before the doctor was able to diagnose what was wrong. Between my atypical symptoms and my health insurance's refusal to pay for a CAT scan, I just suffered until I finally paid for the CAT scan myself. Anyway, long story short, I ended up with a mass that needed to be removed along with my appendix and sigmoid colon. Nothing cancerous and I'm looking at a reversal in another five months or so. Needless to say, it has been an interesting experience all the way around. I've surprised myself with how positive I'm staying about the whole thing and just look at it as a weird detour on my road of life.
