To start, I received my colostomy as the result of surgery to cure a rectal cancer. I am VERY LUCKY that I am considered cancer free and have a very good outlook to remain that way.

Well, to start, I have lived and continue to live a fairly full life. I have interviewed presidents; explored this country from one end to the other; written about many interesting events, people and things; have watched my two children enter this world; play guitar almost as if it is an addiction; eminently able to be a forgiving person (sometimes too much so); have fly fished in Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and throughout the Northeast; enjoy good and interesting conversation and have a nearly limitless vault of trivial knowledge; have worked as a crew chief for a crew of sawyers for the U.S. Forest Service among many other jobs, but now am very lucky and happy to earn my living as a writer; and much more.

I suppose the above would count as something of a resume. To answer who I am: I strive to be a good person—to laugh and make others laugh, be a good dad, keep active and fit, never stop learning or being curious, I don’t get angry very often, and so on. I certainly have my faults too: I can be grumpy, eat too much ice cream at times, occasionally be a little lazy, and spend too much time in my own head, but I do work to be a good person and seek to make amends when necessary and forgive others when they make mistakes as well.

This may be a lot of writing for what should be a short, snappy and succinct little essay, but it should give a glimpse as to who I am. If you are interested in getting to know me then please send a note. If not, best to you.

Take care,

Generally speaking, I would love to meet someone to date who has shared this rather weird and pathos filled experience of having an ostomy.

In particular, I am looking for someone who is genuinely curious about the world, easy going and has a good sense of humor, relatively fit (I'm not perfect either, but I do jog and workout and like to be active) and forgiving nature. Beyond that, we'll just have to see how things work out.
