Hi all, I am a married mum of 2 teenagers. We have 2 king charles cavalier puppies and live in central England. I have a temporary stoma, as a result of comlications that happened during some day keyhole surgery to remove ovarian cysts. I have had endometriosis for many years which caused my cysts and it was during my third lot of keyhole surgery in Feb 2012 when the surgeon perforated my bowel during the op. After being ill and then taken back into hospital a week later for an emergency hartmanns procedure. I woke up in recovery with a temporary stoma, a huge gapping wound across my stomach, and a view to a very different life for the next year or so. Its been life changing for me with me having to give up my job as a registered chilminder for the rest of this year at least and deal with the fact I need to make a recovery before my life return to normal and I have my operation reversed sometime later this year, once my wound has healed. At the moment I am using the Venturi negative pressure wound therapy system to try and heal my wound quicker which is a little box that sucks out dead tissue from the wound, not too sure at this point how much longer I will be needing to use it. Really would like to talk to other people who have a simular situation to me and get help and advice on dealing with having a stoma. Looking forward to talking to people and making friends.
