I was diagnosed with rectal cancer on my birthday, which is in May of this year (2012). Happy birthday to me. :(

I am due for surgery in just 3 weeks and, fingers crossed, will hopefully come out with a temporary ileostomy, which I will have for a few months while my surgically removed tumor area heals. My tumor is dangerously close to my sphincter, so a permanent colostomy is not totally out of the question.

I'm here to learn more and hopefully lessen my fears about all this!
