I've been using coloplast convesity sensura.assura 2piece for 6 months now with no leakage problems.   I usually picture frame around the flange as terry suggested.  I use hypoallergenic tape.
For the past few weeks I've noticed skin irritation, bumpy red lumps and itching, not underneath by my stoma but near the outside where the tape is.
Both of my stomas are almost flush with my skin so I use eakin seals underneath.
I noticed with my mucas fistula, when I change the flange it is wet underneath. it hasn't leaked through but something is irritating my skin.
I've tried nystatin cream, and the stomahesive powder but nothing seems to help.
THE ITCHING IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!

Hello and welcome to meet an ostomate. The site charges a fee only for Full Membership, you can still interact with members here via the forums and the public chat room with free membership. The site charges a fee since it has expenses ... as do all websites, people have to spend their time to run and maintain the site, buy bandwith, servers, and other things. I am a life member here, it cost me 56$....about the price of 1 cup of coffee a week for a year. I think that is a very small charge for such a big reward. In my opinion this site is the best ostomy-related web site on the net. I hope you will stick around awhile and see for yourself. I do not own or am I in any manner connected to this site except as a member. regards. mmsh

If it's little red lumps that are itchy, there's a possibility that you're irritated from shaving the area, not the actual appliance. Is that possible? I know most people, ladies included, sometimes shave around their peristomal area in order to get maxium adhesion with their appliance. If you shave, that might be the reason. Try an extremely gentle, maybe organic shaving cream, and use a clean and very sharp razor.

Janice,
You says your stoma is almost flush with the skin, did you ever have areas on the skin near the stoma that were burning of any sort?  My fiance stoma is flush with his skin and he has had to have two surgeries to cut and culterized the skin around the stoma.  He says he has burning pain when the ostomy is working-  he is using teh sensura 2 pc system as well with convexity alony with adapt rings.  We have tried everything from stomaadhesive powder, doubling up on the irritated side with the adapt rings and it still seems to come back.  Any suggestions?

I use Witch Hazel first under my wafer - I find it is very helpful combatting itching and is not drying, and does not sting.  Then Sting-Free skin barrier, then the Eakins seal, then the wafer.

Helps a lot, and since I'm on constant antibiotic therapy for urinary tract problems, I get a lot of fungal infection (red, rashy, itchy) problems.

Also, eating YOGURT really helps - the probiotics helps change the Ph of the stool (or something like that).

Thankfully, I don't have any problems right around my stoma.  The convexity bags seem to have taken care of that.

You may try measuring the stoma again.  It changes size from time to time.  You want to cut the wafer as close to the stoma as possible.  That may help!

My opther skin issues have cleared as well.  I removed the tape & used an anti fungal spary.

Janice;

So for you the problem had a fungal cause eh? That's interesting. Isn't it amazing how many little things can go wrong with our bodies at the best of times? Between fungi, bacteria, viruses, etc, it's amazing we're all still walking around and living it up!
