Hi folks

Ostomate here, since November 2022. After a roller-coaster ride to get here, things finally seem to be settling down.

I've noticed a few times before a dark red halo around the stoma itself. It's not uncomfortable and doesn't seem to be growing. Is this anything to worry about?

Also, note the white spots/threads...?

Kinda looks like inflammation... You need to check with your medical team... ASAP it looks deep within the tissue. Many times I have a red area around my stoma... but this looks a little deeper. Do you use a barrier ring before putting on your bag?

For those of you still looking for love after your ostomy... don't give up! One day, when you least expect it, there will be a message in your inbox... always remember that when you're not looking, life has a brilliant way of surprising you with someone in your life you have so much in common with, and either you make a great new friend or you will find the person you were always looking for! I, for one, thank God I found this website... I was in a low place when I first started, and now I've never been happier! ~Traci~

Yeah, I always use a barrier ring under the wafer. It's part of my leak-management recipe.

Looks like it's right where your barrier ring sticks. Might be a reaction to that; could try a different brand.
