Coloplast Bag Sizing Issues: Who's Responsible?

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to the ostomy world, (surgery was 11/24)

I've sampled a lot of bags, and I think I've settled on the Coloplast 1-piece drainable system.

I ordered some samples from Coloplast directly, and the 13/16 size seems to work out best.

Now here's the issue: I ordered from Edgepark. And even though the box says 13/16, inside were 15/16.

At first, I didn't realize it, but I was having leakage issues, so I called Coloplast to see what size samples they had sent me. Together we called Edgepark, and at first, they were saying that they wouldn't replace the box because it was opened, but then they relented and sent another box.

This time, I opened the box on camera, just to have it on record, and even though the box said 13/16, the size inside is 15/16.

This is the third box of mislabeled pouches. At this point, whose issue is it, Coloplast or Edgepark?

In that same order, I also tried a two-piece system, and the part that sticks to the body is labeled as one way in the box, but it's much bigger when I opened it.

Do you guys have any recommendations?

Hey, so this one is kind of a toss-up. For bags that are damaged, have holes, faulty bottoms, have rips, etc., it's Coloplast. If your supplies come and the box is damaged, missing items, the wrong item was sent, or not the correct amount, or if they are melted, that would be Edge Park. But because of the way Edge Park is, they aren't good. I used to have them. I would contact Coloplast, but there is a separate number for replacements and problems with your pouching system that you call: 1-855-863-3910. I would tell them what keeps happening.

I also use Coloplast 13/16 for my urostomy, and I get my supplies from Edgepark. I just checked all my boxes, and they are correct. I even measured them. I'm using convex wafers, so that may be the difference.

What do you mean by the outside label? The only label I see is on the box. If the box label is inaccurate, that's on Coloplast, but if there is some other label, that might be Edgepark.

I'd file a complaint with Edgepark either way. They are in a better position to get this fixed.

And if you can use the light convex wafers, I have 2 boxes I can send you for free. I had to switch to deep convex. Just message me with your info.

I'm sorry I was unclear; the box says 13/16, but the pouches inside are 15/16. This is 3 boxes this way.

That's on Coloplast then. Edgepark people will go by the manufacturer's label. I'm guessing this is a problem with the flat wafers since my deep convex wafers are fine.

Call Coloplast. This is ridiculous. If they were labeled 15/16 but really 13/16, you could cut them. But there's nothing to do about too big.

Mine are the deep convex as well; it's so crazy to get three different boxes with too big pouches. That's why I questioned myself, lol.

I ordered from Byram. If these come too big, it's definitely Coloplast.

This is clearly the manufacturer's issue as Coloplast doesn't generally change the labels. Personally, I've used saline bags now for going on 7 years, and there have never been any issues. And they are provided through Coloplast/Charter.

G-Day Beth,

Why don't you call Coloplast and ask if they are considering getting SALTS for the USA?

The Sensura Mio Convex is a great alternative to salt bags and is available. Just a thought.

Iggie, I've contacted Salts four times and talked to managers each time, and they informed me that they don't and they won't send to the US, and there are no plans to come to the US.

I order bags with the cut-to-fit size, using my ostomy scissors to cut to the right size.

My stoma is kind of oval in shape and sometimes swells or is really squished up, so I cut based on its appearance on the day I am changing.

That is a shame, Beth. Is there any way you could get them via Canada?

I'm about 1.5 hours' drive to the Canadian border. I have toyed with the idea of driving into Canada and buying some Salts products to try. But these days I'm afraid of what customs would do to me. I might get arrested for "drug" smuggling or something, given the products aren't approved here. I think I'll live without.

Beth would have a much longer trip, indeed.

Hey Iggie, nope, they will not and have no plans to bring it to the US. It does suck.
