Whoa,
Do you know if a person with an ileostomy can safely have a full body wrap at a spa?
Would like to try one to see if it really takes a few inches off waist hips and thigh area? Have been at gym and walked for 6 weeks now trying to loose some quit smoking weight!!
Maybe this body wrap will help to get some of this 20#s off!! But I have not smoked for 15 mts now! And I find its harder to loose as I age!
Thanks

Hey Soozig
I never had anyone I know do one!

My thoughts: since you are compressing the body, you are compressing the pouch.  If your stoma is active, the stool has to go somewhere....My best guess is it would leak out between the flange and pouch if 2 piece, or loosen the seal of a one piece.  I don't know for sure but laws of physics...it has to go somewhere.

Maybe it would work out if you did it when you know your stoma is quiet?   I would not think it would harm the stoma...I know ladies who wear panty hose with the waist control which compresses fair, no problem with their stomas.  Probably do best to calll the folks up and ask them.

I honestly don't think the wraps are a long term solution.  They are like putting a big ace wrap on your body to mobilize fluids back into the lymp system.  You may lose some water wt. which shows up  in inches, but soon as you start drinking fluids again and wraps are off you are back to square one. wrapping or compressing your body can't make you lose fat...unfortuneatly! It can help slim you from water wt. loss, but effects are short term.

Don't mean to rain on your parade.  But also hate to see you spend $$.  Maybe give it a try and let everyone know????  Good for you for going to the gym....on my list of New Yeras resolutions I haven't begun yet.

Hi Hatlady and all,

I've had my ostomy for over 50 years, since I was a kid, and didn't think I really needed to be part of the ostomy site. But once active, I came to realize, that although I may not need help at the time, I was able to reach out and  help others in need. Back in the day, before stoma therapists, I use to visit new patients in the hospital or homes ... While professionals are great, it is also good to be able to speak with people with personal experience. I was a free member for awhile, but after writing often, I was given free months. I then started paying, and decided to just take lifetime membership. After all, I was going to have my ostomy for the rest of my life. I'm one of those people who can disappear for a few months at a time, but I'm always glad that the site is here, I can return and reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. This is an excellent site ... Best regards to all ... and Best wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year.

a good way to go with your excrise is make sure your protien intake is higher than your carbs.  1 gram protien to every pound you weigh. tuna fish raw gives you 24 grams if you must add something to your tuna a slice of apple or add pepper, broiled or baked chicken breast gives you 34 grams.  you want to eat every 2 hours small meals so that you burn what you eat every thing you do burns calories so the more you move the more you lose plus cut out all dark sodas, beer and thst will knock out a bunch more that is hard to gain control off

my only fear would be dehydration if you are wrapping the water out of body.....like whoa said it can't be any worse than some of the control top pantyhose contraptions we put ourselves in LOL.....Let us know how it goes....even if it doesn't work for weight loss it might be very relaxing!
