Hi!

I've had an ileal conduit since 1998.  Since the surgery, I have a lot of gas in the morning just after awakening - especially so within the last 3 or 4 years.  For the last 2 weeks I've had a lot of loud gurgling on the left side of my abdomen, especially at the site of the stoma.  A few times In the last 3 weeks, I've also experienced some intermiitent abdominal cramping on the left side of my abdomen.

Has anyone else with an ileal conduit had the same or similar experience(s)?  I'm wondering if these symptoms are some side effects of having an ileal conduit.

Thanks for any help.

Hi jb,

I've had my conduit since 72'. For the past 2 years or so I've had the exact same symptoms as your describing with the exception of very loose stools. I thought it might be my gallbladder and I did not want any more surgery so I kept putting it off. I finally grew tired of the pain and went to my FP who sent me to a gastro guy. After a colonoscopy/EGD they found a gastric ulcer. They gave me Omeprozole and I have never felt better in my whole life! I changed my eating habits somewhat and with great reluctance, gave up coffee. No more gurgling, gas, loose stools, and pain!

In your case, as far out as you are from your original procedure, I can not say for sure that your symptoms are or are not related to your surgery. Don't suffer like I did and don't risk aggravating a condition that may be a simple fix ...........go see your Doctor.

Good luck!
