Hello all,

Had a question bothering my family and I thought I will bring up here to see if I get some feedback.
My mom did her colostomy 2 yrs back and she is doing ok. Coping with her new lifestyle. She is a strong lady & a fighter & we love her! During one of her review her doctor wanted to do colonscopy but they found out that part of her colon was twisted and they failed to do the test. Does it happen post surgery, is this normal? Is anyone here facing the same situation like this? Please let us know! Thanking you in anticipating.

For what it's worth, Pea, I have heard that doctors can't proceed with a colonoscopy if a twisted colon of other obstruction blocks a full exam. In that event, however, they will employ some other technique such as a barium enema to accomplish the job. I am sure your mother's doctors discussed this "plan B" with your mom. The important thing here is that they get the proper information to treat your mother appropriately...not how they get it. Don't worry, be happy if they do.

I’m usually not one for “support groups” and loathe whatever the hell they call Facebook these days.
This site has literally been a lifesaver because of its members, part support group, part dad jokes, part story telling, mostly friendship and if people don’t agree they just keep it to themselves. I honestly reminds me of the old days and just plain old polite society, it helps me more than I can explain. Thank you to everyone that allows me to engage with them and to all the members that help other members!

Hello peacenlove.  A twisted bowel can occur for a number of different reasons both pre or post surgery. Either way it should be taken seriously and treated if necessary. For a very brief overview the following site seems useful:- http://www.buzzle.com/articles/twisted-bowel-symptoms-and-causes-of-twisted-bowel-syndrome.html   Best wishes Bill
